Emporia Main Street Welcome

One of Emporia Main Street’s goals is to promote pride in the community’s institutions, and provide those who visit Emporia feel welcome when coming to town for various events held in Emporia every year. This year, Emporia has the opportunity to host the 2016 Disc Golf World Championships that comes around every year toward the end of the disc golf season. The event welcomes over 400 participants from 12 different countries, and 40+ states nationwide.

In the spring we here at Dynamic Discs host the annual Glass Blown Open. This last tournament brought over 1,000 players. The World Championships is a different beast entirely. Every player in town plays on the professional level and will be competing to be crowned the World Champion for 2016. It is the single most prestigious title the winning player can earn as a pro disc golfer.

Kids Sidewalk Chalk Emporia Main StreetEmporia Main Street took time out of their day to incorporate some of the community’s youth in welcoming all of the players coming into town. Tuesday morning, kids from the University child care program joined a local Church’s youth groups on main street to take their welcome to the literal streets. Across from the Granada the sidewalks will be sprinkled with artwork from kids looking to make sure the pros from around the world remember not only the tournament, but the town as well.

KidsChalk-1To strike a heartstring with our own media man, Bobby Brown, one of the kids took to posting hashtags on the sidewalk in good fortune for all those coming to play. Tuesday evening will see an influx of artwork on the sidewalks as an ‘open to public’ version of this morning activity, and will commence around 5pm. Please enjoy the beautiful artwork provided by our local community between the blocks of 8th and 9th Commercial Street. In the words of one of our young artists: #urawesome #discgolf #goodluck to all those calling Emporia home for the week.
